Challenging Images has been an immensely enriching experience.
The work contained in these pages is fitting testament to the
imagination, creativity and enthusiasm of our students. The ethos
of the project and the philosophy underpinning it has always been
on inclusiveness. Focusing on what our students can do rather
than what they cant. Challenges be they physical,
that of language or culture, have been overcome to concentrate
on what unites us - our humanity.
We are as instigators particularly proud of the contribution provided
by the special theme of Challenging Images - how photography can
be used as a medium of expression for those physically challenged.
The project has given all students a creative voice, which articulates
a powerful sense of identity and a cultural awareness. To view
the world through their eyes is an enriching and thought provoking
experience.
It has been a unique collaborative effort with students, teachers,
parents and sponsors. A creative hybrid that has endorsed all
that is positive about our young people.
So much has been done by so many to breathe life into Challenging
Images. A special thanks to NCTE, Michael Gainey and Principal
Seamus Mullooly for unfailing support. I hope that the work has
vindicated his faith. It has been an honour to be involved in
this project and rest assured that this is not the beginning of
the end for Challenging Images, but the end of the beginning.
